Bangladesh Industry Commentary Highlights Pharmaceutical-Grade Gelatin and Manufacturing Development
Pharmaceutical-grade gelatin featured among the manufacturing opportunities discussed by leather-engineering professor Mohammed Mizanur Rahman in a June 26 industry commentary. The discussion also covered collagen peptides and cosmetic ingredients, placing gelatin within a wider programme of higher-value product development.
Rahman proposed that domestic manufacturing could replace a portion of imports. Development of these product categories would direct attention towards local production and the opportunity to serve demand within Bangladesh.
The commentary called for policy support, financing and private investment to assist industrial development. Public-private partnerships were also proposed as a way to bring different participants into the development process and support cooperation around manufacturing projects.
Technology transfer was another part of the proposals. Together, the suggested measures connect investment, technical cooperation and market development, with pharmaceutical-grade gelatin identified as one of the product directions for the country’s manufacturing sector.
