Bangladesh Advances Industrial Infrastructure and Production Management Improvements
Bangladesh’s leather industry is advancing measures to improve production infrastructure and factory management. At a workshop organised by the Bangladesh Tanners Association and Business Promotion Council in May 26, participants discussed technical improvements and preparations for Leather Working Group certification.
Officials said the existing central effluent treatment plant in Savar was being upgraded, with a second facility being planned.
Soft loans for companies developing individual treatment facilities were also under consideration, linking public infrastructure work with support for investment by manufacturers.
The workshop’s recommendations covered occupational safety, emergency preparedness, pre-treatment, water metering and discharge monitoring. These topics place day-to-day factory management alongside infrastructure investment in the industry’s improvement programme.
Business Promotion Council representatives connected certification and operational improvements with access to international market value. The workshop brought together certification requirements, technical recommendations and financing proposals as areas for coordinated industry development.
