Bangladesh’s Leather Certification Gap Highlights the Value of Our Model

According to a report in The Business Standard on 15 May 2026, an industry seminar noted that although about 140 of the 162 tanneries planned for the Savar Tannery Industrial Estate are now operating, only 8 facilities in Bangladesh currently hold Leather Working Group (LWG) certification — a gap that prevents many local tanneries from exporting directly to European and US markets.

Industry experts point to inadequate effluent treatment and solid-waste management as the core problem. Projects such as our bovine-hide gelatin supply chain, which recycles tannery hide waste into export-grade gelatin, are among the solutions the industry hopes will help close this certification gap.
